Reds sign Karlan Ahearne-Grant from Charlton Athletic

30 January 2018

We are delighted to announce the arrival of Charlton Athletic attacking midfielder Karlan Ahearne-Grant on loan from the League One club until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old completed his move earlier today in time to train with his new team-mates this morning.

Karlan has been part of the set-up at Charlton since he was 12 years old and had just turned 17 when he made his debut for the club in a Championship match at Norwich in September 2014.

He got his first goal for Charlton in a League Cup win over Dagenham & Redbridge in August 2015, one of three he scored that season, and he has made 12 starts for Charlton this season, including one against Reds in the Checkatrade Trophy, and 19 appearances as a substitute, 18 of them in League One.

He also made three appearances for Cambridge United during a loan spell in January and February, 2016.

Karlan has also played for England at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level.

Head Coach Harry Kewell said: “I’m delighted to welcome Karlan to the club. He is an athletic, attacking midfielder with an eye for goal who has got lots of Championship and League One experience already under his belt.

“With 16 games left this season there is a lot for us to play for and I feel Karlan can be a big part in what we are trying to achieve between now and the end of the season.”

Director of Football Selim Gaygusuz added: “Karlan can operate as a forward or attacking winger. He is a quality addition to the squad and we beat several League One and Two clubs to his signature.”

Karlan has been given the No.9 shirt during his time with the Reds.
