LEAGUE 2 LOWDOWN: LINCOLN CITY

3 July 2018

Our League Two lowdown continues with Lincoln City, who narrowly lost out on promotion last season.

Who are ya?

The Imps lost out to Exeter City in the semi finals of the Sky Bet League Two Play-Offs, having returned to the League last season as National League champions.

Ins and Outs

Our new signing Ollie Palmer is just one of several players to exit Sincil Bank during the transfer window, as manager Danny Cowley (pictured) restructures his side ahead of the new campaign.

Nathan Arnold and Elliot Woodhouse are amongst the names that have departed Lincoln. Bruno Andrade is one of two players Cowley has brought in after a prolific goalscoring campaign with National League play-off finalists Boreham Wood. Harry Toffolo and Michael O’Connor are the other additions to the Imps squad.

Making Amends

After play-off heartbreak, Lincoln will be looking to go one step further next season by gaining promotion to Sky Bet League One.

Winning is not an unfamiliar feeling for the Imps, as Cowley guided them to Checkatrade Trophy glory last campaign when they beat League One Shrewsbury Town at Wembley. City will look to continue that winning momentum into the new season as they push to go one better.

Previous Meetings

Lincoln and Crawley only met for the first time last season, and it took until the second meeting in the February for the first goal. Both sides drew a blank at Sincil Bank in October, playing out a drab 0-0 draw, but Crawley had their shooting boots on second time around, winning 3-1 at home. Town went ahead through Jimmy Smith, before a goal from Matt Green levelled things up. A second-half penalty from Josh Payne put Crawley ahead before Mark Connolly added gloss to the score line just five minutes later.
