Our League Two lowdown continues with the Grecians, who were beaten in the play-off final a few weeks ago.
Who are ya?
Exeter were beaten 3-1 by Coventry at Wembley. They finished fourth with 80 points during the regular season.
Ins and Outs
Since the end of the season the Grecians have released seven players including hot prospect Jordan Storey who signed for Championship side Preston North End.
Robbie Simpson, Ryan Brunt, Dan Seaborne and youngster Alex Byrne have not had their contract renewed by the club. Promising winger Kyle Edwards has returned to West Brom following a season long loan.
Exeter are yet to sign anyone during the summer transfer window.
Taylor Takes Over
Former defender Matt Taylor has been appointed as Head Coach after the long-serving Paul Tisdale left at the end of the season and joined Mk Dons.
Taylor said: “I’ve worked with the players for the last 18 months and we’ve had relative success off and off the pitch. I'm very much looking forward to this new challenge.
The team really grew last summer and those players stepped up to the plate, they’ve got to do the same next season,” Taylor said.
St James’ Park is currently going through a major redevelopment with a £3.5 million project to build a new main stand to be completed by late summer-early autumn. By the time the Reds make the journey to Devon there might even be a new stand for travelling fans too behind one of the goals.
The Reds have only won two of the eight previous fixtures between the clubs, the most recent coming last season in a 3-1 win at home thanks to a Jordan Roberts brace and Josh Payne's penalty. The teams also drew 2-2 at St James' Park in April through Enzio Boldewijn and Josh Yorwerth, who netted in our only other win over Exeter back in August 2016 at St James' Park.
