CHELTENHAM AWAY ON OPENING DAY FOR REDS

Stevenage our first home game of the season

21 June 2018

Reds will be on their travels when the new Sky Bet EFL2 season kicks off on Saturday August 4.

Harry Kewell’s men go to Cheltenham Town for the first game of the season, a place we visited for our first away match last season.

The home opener is a week later on August 11 against Stevenage, one of three fixtures in that month at the Broadfield Stadium.

After a trip to Port Vale on the 18th – where Reds won 2-1 last season – there are two home games in four days to round off the month against Swindon Town on Tuesday 21st and relegated Bury four days later.

Reds face Oldham Athletic, another of the sides who came down, on September 1 before meeting the Latics at home on February 9. Other dates against relegated clubs are MK Dons (home November 3, away March 2) and Northampton Town (December 8 home, February 16 away). The trip to face Bury at Gigg Lane is on February 2.

Reds will be away on Boxing Day at Cambridge United and finish the year three days later at Newport County. 2019 begins with a home fixture against Colchester United.

Neither of the two promoted clubs visit us until the New Year. Macclesfield, now under the management of ex-Reds boss Mark Yates, arrive on February 23 and the season finishes at home to Tranmere Rovers on Saturday May 4.

Our Easter games see us travel to Exeter City on Good Friday before hosting Notts County on Easter Monday and our two midweek away games are at Meadow Lane on October 2 and Mansfield Town on November 27.
