EIGHT PLAYERS RULED OUT OF SENIOR CUP FINAL BY INJURY

9 May 2018

Injuries severely hampered Harry Kewell's team selection options for tonight's Sussex Senior Cup final against Brighton & Hove Albion under-23s with eight players ruled out.

Mark Connolly was the latest player to join the injured list after breaking his foot in training on Tuesday. He joined Jimmy Smith (knee), Jordan Roberts (pelvis), Mark Randall (broken toe) Josh Doherty (concussion), Panutche Camara (ankle) Josh Lelan (knee) and Thomas Verheydt (broken finger), who were all out of contention for the game at the Amex. Dannie Bulman captained the team at the Amex with Reds only able to name two subs.

In addition, Karlan Ahearne-Grant has returned to parent club Charlton for treatment to an injury.

Head Coach Harry Kewell said: "We have had a raft of injuries to cope with in the last couple of weeks, with four players ruled out since the game at Mansfield on Saturday. It's a shame because it would have been nice to pick from a full squad but I have every faith in the team that is chosen will do the club proud tonight."
