Players from the club’s under-23 team will feature in tonight’s Parafix Sussex Senior Cup tie against Haywards Heath Town at the Broadfield Stadium, kick off 7.45pm.
Reds have reached the final of the competition for the last two seasons and will be hoping to go one better after losing on both occasions to Brighton & Hove Albion.
But they will first have to get past an experienced Heath team, who have settled in well at step 4 of the non-league pyramid after winning the Southern Combination League last season to win promotion to the Isthmian League South East Division.
Assistant Head Coach Nathan Rooney said: “It’s an opportunity for the guys who haven’t played much in the last few weeks to get some game time under their belts ahead of what is a busy period for us.
“But we’re also looking at some of the under-23s who have been working with our under-23 coach Qayum Shakoor and his staff for the last couple of months. They have played some behind-closed-doors games and we are taking a closer look at some of them tonight.
“So it’s an important showcase for them as well as the lads in the squad pushing for places and we will be taking Haywards Heath and the competition seriously.”
Haywards Heath’s squad includes two ex-Reds in Byron Napper, who played under Steve Evans during the club’s promotion season in 2010-11 and Alex Laing, who is a former member of the club’s Academy.
Remember, you must have a ticket for tonight’s game. The Box Office is open until kick off and admission is £5 and £1 for under-18s. The West Stand will be used with two turnstiles at either end open. A team-sheet will be available free on the turnstiles.
