PALMER: WE GOT STRONGER AS GAME WORE ON

11 November 2018

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

Striker Ollie Palmer felt the least Reds deserved another crack at League One Southend after a late own goal earned them a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall in Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup first round tie.

Nine-goal Ollie had a header disallowed in the first half and afterwards, when asked if Reds would be happy with the outcome, he insisted: “No, because I thought the one side trying to win it at the end was us.

“We showed them too much respect and they had far too many shots in the first 20 minutes. But once we got ourselves in the game in the second half we looked strong.”

Asked about the disallowed goal, he said: “It was a key mistake because I was definitely onside. But we’re still in the Cup. We have had some fantastic results at home and we need to do it again when we play them in the replay.

“But we’ve got two tough away games to go now and we need to get good results against Gillingham on Tuesday and Grimsby next Saturday before we think about Southend.”

The replay will take place on Tuesday, November 20, kick off 7.45pm. Ticket prices and selling arrangements will be confirmed on Monday.
