JOE MAC: LET'S BUILD ON CLEAN SHEET AGAINST MANSFIELD

26 November 2018

Joe McNerney says Tuesday night’s game at Mansfield presents Reds with the perfect opportunity to build on Saturday’s 3-0 win over Crewe.

No side have drawn more games in the EFL this season than the Stags, whose 1-1 draw at Lincoln on Saturday was their 11thof the season.

In all competitions they have only lost once at home – a 2-1 defeat against Exeter in September which is also their only league defeat of the season. They are fourth in the table going into Saturday’s game and their only loss since the Exeter game was last week’s 5-0 defeat at Charlton in the FA Cup.

Joe and the rest of the back four, helped by an inspired show from keeper Glenn Morris, kept a welcome first clean sheet in 11 games against Crewe and he is looking for more of the same tomorrow.

He said: “If you look at their results Mansfield have had a lot of close games – they don’t concede many goals and are obviously hard to beat so we know it’s going to be a tough game.

“I don’t think our away results have reflected our performances at times. Against Grimsby in our last away game I thought we were very unfortunate to lose.

“We need to be nice and solid on Tuesday defensively, throughout the team. And if we can nick a goal we’ll have something to hold onto. We know we’ve not been good enough away from home but we can turn the away form around for sure and Tuesday would be a great place to start.”
