POST MATCH: GABRIELE CIOFFI ON DEFEAT AT COLCHESTER

13 October 2018

Gabriele Cioffi reflects on Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Colchester United.

On the performance…

At times in the game I thought we played well. At 2-1 it looks as if we might get an equaliser and we create a couple of good chances. The header from Joe (Maguire) – I thought it was in but no. We pushed extra men forward in the last ten minutes – Joe (McNerney), Conns and that left us open to the opponent counter-attacking us, which is what happened.

Missed opportunities …

I think in the last two games we have created many chances, one goal here and one goal at Notts County does not reflect our good attacking play. But of course, you have to take your chances. A lot of aspects of our performance today were positive but we know we have to improve in other areas too.

Inconsistent form …

Good teams win two, three, four games in a row or get a draw and that is what we are continually striving for. I don’t think we are too far away from achieving this and the only way to do it is to work hard on the training ground and most importantly learn from our mistakes, as a squad and as individual players and, of course, the management team also must reflect on where we can do better.

Red card for Bondz …

It was a bad mistake by Bondz, right at the very end of the game, and he now misses three matches which is a big punishment. But it means someone has to come into take his place and if he does well then he stays in the team.

Away support …

Over 200 fans follow us so thanks to them. We heard them and the commitment of the fans to support us away from home is tremendous.

Bouncing back …

Four big games to come, three at home, all against teams above us. For sure it is an important period of the season and we must react positively to today next Saturday against Newport.
