GABRIELE CIOFFI: I'M PROUD OF MY PLAYERS

20 October 2018

Reaction from Reds' Head Coach to 4-1 win against Newport County

Gabriele Cioffi gives his reaction to Saturday's 4-1 win over Newport County.

On the overall performance ...

Very pleased and proud of the players' performance. Apart from a 15-minute spell at the start of the second half I thought we were excellent. At half-time we should probably have led by two or three goals. The players were very good today but when you give good teams like Newport space and time to play they will punish you, but the reaction to going to 1-1 was excellent. I thought it was a dominant performance and we scored some good goals. Perhaps we might have scored more but you have to give credit to Newport. They defended very strongly in the first half and overall made it very tough for us.

On five home League wins in a row ...

A great moment for the whole club but we have to remain humble. We are not yet a club who can take anything for granted. I thought the fans today were great for us, especially at 1-1 when we needed them. They got behind us. All we can do is keep winning at home and let's see if more people come and support the players, because at the moment they deserve all the good wishes of the fans.

On another sublime goal from AN-G ...

Well, we are pleased with the progress of all our young players - Ashley, Panutche, Brian (Galach), Tarryn (Allarakhia) as well as the rest of the squad. It was a lovely goal from Ashley but when we played well there were other moves which might have got us more goals. So overall very pleased, but we need to now think about Tuesday.

Another home test on Tuesday ...

Another tough opponent in Exeter. A very strong side, as Newport were. We have to keep going but let's enjoy the moment tonight of a good victory and then we prepare for Tuesday. The players have been outstanding. They are very proactive in putting into place what we ask of them, long may that continue.
