REDS AWAY IN EMIRATES FA CUP FIRST ROUND

22 October 2018

Reds have been drawn away to Southend United in the first round of the Emirates FA Cup.

The ties were drawn on Monday and Reds will head to Roots Hall on the weekend of November 9th-12th.

It will be the fifth time we have faced the Shrimpers in a competitive fixture but the first since 2015, when Southend won 3-0 at the Broadfield Stadium in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. Of the players on duty for Crawley that night, only Lewis Young and Jimmy Smith are still at the club.

The sides met for the first time in the 2011-12 season when we won 3-0 at home in a League Two encounter. A crowd of 3,220 watched second-half goals from Dean Howell and Matt Tubbs (2) win it for Reds. We drew 0-0 in a televised game at Roots Hall later that season.

The sides also met in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy that season when Southend won 1-0 at Roots Hall.

Since reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup in successive seasons in 2011 and 2012 Reds have only got into the second round once.

Infact, our last FA Cup win was nearly five years ago when we triumphed 2-1 at non-league Hednesford Town in November 2013.

But let's be positive - at least it's not far for the Reds fans to travel!

Ticket information will be released as soon as possible.
