REACTION: GABRIELE CIOFFI ON BAD DAY FOR REDS

27 October 2018

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi with his thoughts on an afternoon to forget at Tranmere.

Assessment of the overall performance …

We are a work in progress and not a squad who can afford to have players underperforming or not sticking to the game plan. When that happens, it is very hard for us and we saw that today. We conceded two or three goals from corners when we lost their players in the box and that is very disappointing. Maybe it is too heavy a score line but we did not play well.

On what he has learned about his squad …

With all respect to Tranmere I think we also have a strong squad but this is a massive lesson for us. If you are not 110%, if you are not humble then things like this can happen. We also created chances but didn’t play our football or get anywhere near the standards we have and when that happens as you have seen we look an average team.

On the absence of Josh Payne and Bondz N’Gala …

It will be good to have them available next week. It was not easy for Dannie Bulman to come in from the bench but he is a great professional and one of the leaders of our squad and I thought he played well, but obviously it is nice to have options for the next game.

On the travelling support …

The fans are amazing. We appreciate their support. We need them because in a long season sometimes you require a boost and we know they will be behind us, as they were throughout the game so a big thank you to them for their support.

On bouncing back at home to MK Dons next week …

It is going to be a long week. We will have six hours to reflect on what we can do better on the coach home and I am sure the fans will see a reaction from my players next Saturday. Everyone has to ask if they can do better personally and for the team. That is the main lesson going forward but, as I said earlier, we are a work in progress at the moment.
