PREVIEW: LINCOLN CITY

7 September 2018

A new era is upon us at Crawley Town, with the announcement of Gabriele Cioffi’s appointment as our new manager. The Reds travel to high flying league leaders Lincoln City on Saturday, and while Cioffi will not take charge of his new side, he will have the opportunity to watch them before taking charge next week.

Lincoln have won five of their six league games so far this season, and are sitting pretty at the top of Sky Bet League Two in only their second season back as a league club.

HEAD TO HEAD

With Lincoln City only entering the Football League at the beginning of last season, Crawley and the Imps have only met twice in their history.

Last season, our match at Sincil Bank ended goalless, however the Reds recorded a fantastic 3-1 win at home in the corresponding fixture.

Town raced into a 1-0 lead in the first half thanks to Jimmy Smith’s goal, with Matt Green equalising shortly after the half time break.

A penalty from Josh Payne restored the lead with twenty minutes to go, before a header just four minutes later from Mark Connolly secured an impressive win at the Broadfield Stadium.

ONE TO WATCH

John Akinde is no stranger to Crawley, having spent two seasons in West Sussex between 2011 and 2013. Akinde scored once for the Reds – a strike at Shrewsbury that was televised by Sky Sports, but has found his scoring boots once again at Lincoln where he has bagged three goals so far this term, adding to the whopping 32 he scored for Barnet in League Two the year before. Since leaving us, he’s played for Dagenham, Alfreton, Portsmouth and Barnet.

TICKET NEWS

Tickets are now off sale at the ticket office, however they can still be purchased by calling Lincoln City on 01522 880 011.

Prices stand at £22 for adults, £17 for 18-21 and Over 60’s, and £9 for U18’s.
