CIOFFI BREAKS NEW BOSS DUCK

17 September 2018

Gabriele Cioffi is the first Crawley Town boss since Steve Evans to win his first game in charge after Saturday’s 2-0 home win against Morecambe.

Not since Evans oversaw a 2-1 win over Stevenage in 2007 on his Reds managerial debut has any Head Coach gained three points on their maiden match in the dug out.

Richie Barker could stake a claim as the Reds beat Millwall in his first match, however that came in a penalty shoot out after a 2-2 draw at the Den in the first round of the League Cup in 2012.

John Gregory and Dean Saunders both oversaw 0-0 draws in their debut games, with Gregory’s Reds held at Bristol Rovers in the first round of the FA Cup, while Saunders’ Crawley shared the points with Colchester United at the Broadfield.

Mark Yates' first game also ended with both sides having a share of the spoils as the Town drew 1-1 at Oxford United on the opening day of the 2015-16 season.

Dermot Drummy’s first game in charge ended in defeat, as the end of our 2016-17 season fizzled out with eight straight defeats. Drummy took charge two games from the end of that run, which saw the Reds lose 3-0 away at Dagenham & Redbridge on the penultimate round of the season.

Harry Kewell also lost his opening game, as Port Vale recorded a 3-1 win on the opening day of last season.
