The Reds will look to bounce back from last Saturday’s defeat to Forest Green Rovers when Yeovil Town visit the Broadfield Stadium on Saturday, 3pm.
Yeovil are a team well on the up having scored eleven goals in their last three away games and conceding none – these include whopping 6-0 victory over Newport County at Rodney Parade and a 4-0 win at Notts County.
Before their 3-0 home defeat to Swindon last Saturday, they had set a club record for the amount of minutes without conceding.
HEAD TO HEAD
Crawley Town and Yeovil did not meet in a competitive match until Crawley joined the Football League back in 2011. Of the eleven meetings, the home side in each contest has won seven times, with three away wins and just one draw.
The first meeting came in League One in 2012, just five days before Christmas, as Yeovil nicked a 1-0 win at the Broadfield Stadium thanks to a late own goal from David Hunt. In the corresponding fixture at Huish Park, Yeovil sped into a 2-0 lead inside 20 minutes, but the match finished level as second half goals from Joe Walsh and Matt Sparrow pegged the scoreline to 2-2.
We picked up our first win over the Glovers when we faced them in our third and final League One season. New signing Marvin Elliott scored twice in as many minutes to help the Reds pick up an important 2-0 win. Yeovil won 1-0 at Huish Park thanks to Jordy Hiwula’s strike.
The Glovers then won the next five fixtures, including one in the FA Cup, although just one of those victories came in West Sussex. Included in that run was a whopping 5-0 win in December 2016 where the hosts found themselves 3-0 up before half time.
That heavy defeat was to spell the end of wretched run against the Somerset side though, as the Reds have won all three fixtures since that match. Josh Yorwerth and James Collins both bagged as we recorded a 2-0 win at home in January 2017, while exactly eight months later a Jordan Roberts brace saw us record the same score line.
Our first ever win at Huish Park came in dramatic circumstances last season as the hosts had two players sent off before half time. Sam Surridge put the Glovers 1-0 after 19 minutes before Connor Smith and Omar Sowunmi saw red either side of Mark Randall’s equaliser. That wasn’t the full story though, as an over head drone saw the referee call a halt to the game for over 15 minutes, leaving Thomas Verheydt perfectly placed to score the winner when play restarted. Over 98 minutes had elapsed when the big Dutchman smashed home the winning goal.
ONE TO WATCH
Striker Yoann Arquin has been an influential part of Yeovil’s winning run on the road, scoring three times this season. Martinique striker Arquin has played for a number of British clubs including Hereford, St Mirren and Mansfield as well as spells in Sweden, Kazakhstan and France. Former Red and ex-Notts County defender Dean Leacock compared Arquin to Nicolas Anelka.
Arquin is no stranger to the Broadfield, having scored twice for Hereford on the penultimate day of our League Two promotion-winning season. Hereford’s 3-0 win meant the Reds went to Accrington needing a win to seal promotion.
