PREVIEW: FOREST GREEN ROVERS

4 April 2019

All you need to need to know ahead of Saturday's crucial clash.

SCENE SETTER

Crawley will be looking to pick up their first league win since March 9th following a run of three straight defeats in Sky Bet League Two.

Reds have only won four games in 2019 and just one of their last ten. We sit 22nd in the form table based on the last ten games.

Forest Green are 19th in the form table having won three of their last ten games. They lost 2-1 at home to play off rivals MK Dons last Saturday while the Reds were defeated 1-0 at Morecambe. However, Rovers have the second best away record this season, only behind league leaders Lincoln City, winning ten of 20 on their travels.

THE HISTORY

In our only previous home match against Forest Green in the Football League. we drew 1-1 in November 2017 when Thomas Verheydt cancelled out Christian Doidge's goal. The other two league clashes both ended in Rovers wins, as Reuben Reid scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for them in September at The New Lawn. Reid and Doidge were both on target in a  2-0 win at The New Lawn in February.

Overall, in 17 clashes in all competitions, there have been seven Town win and six for Forest Green, with four draws. Our last win over Forest Green came in January 2011 on the march to our Blue Square title, as we recorded a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Craig McAllister and Matt Tubbs (2) at the New Lawn.

OPPOSITION VIEW

Speaking after last weekend's defeat to MK Dons, Rovers boss Mark Cooper says his team did not do the basics right.

"All over the pitch we didn't do anything of things we needed to do to win a game of football. We have to make sure we do everything we can to see games out in the future. We're in a good position and we have to remain positive going into the final six games."

"Crawley have got some big players and are very dangerous from set-pieces but over the last couple of years, they have been one of the better footballing teams as well.”

TEAM NEWS

Jimmy Smith (knee), Josh Doherty (hip), Luke Gambin (thigh) and Josh Payne (ankle) are all sidelined for Reds while Ibrahim Meite serves the final game of his three-match suspension.

Joseph Mills returned to action for the visitors last weekend and should be in contention again this weekend.

THE MATCH OFFICIALS

Lincolnshire referee Darren Drysdale will be in charge.

It will be his second Reds' game of the season. He took charge of the 2-1 defeat to Gillingham at Priestfield Stadium in the Checkatrade Trophy in November.

Mr Drysdale has officiated at Championship level and had only taken charge of two Crawley fixtures before the Gillingham game.

The first was 1-1 draw at Hereford in November 2011, with the other being a 2-0 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers in December 2015. In 33 games this season he has shown 115 yellow and three red cards.

Ravel Cheosiaua and Garry Maskell will be his assistants. The fourth official is Paul Yates.
