GABY: TONIGHT IS A NEW CHALLENGE

13 August 2019

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi says his players haven't had too long to enjoy Saturday's first League win of the season over Salford City.

Almost immediately after the 2-0 win, the squad's focus switched to tonight's opportunity to improve on our poor record in the Carabao Cup.

We haven't won a game in the competition since Izale McLeod's extra-time winner sunk Ipswich 1-0 in 2014.

Mind you, since then we have played six games in a row away from home - and lost them all.

Add in the factor that we couldn't have had more 'northerly' opponents in the southern section than the Saddlers, and you can understand why Reds fans will travel in hope rather than expectation tonight. And remember on our last visit to the Bescot Stadium in April 2015 we were thumped 5-0.

But let's look on the positive side. Saturday's display was one of our best for a long time and with some good players not even making the bench the side in action tonight will be a lot stronger than might have been the case in the past, even if the Head Coach decides to freshen things up a bit.

Here's what Gaby had to say ahead of tonight's game:
