GABY'S THOUGHTS ON HORSHAM DEFEAT

20 July 2019

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi had no complaints after watching Reds lose 3-1 in Saturday's pre-season game at Horsham.

Reece Grego-Cox scored in the first half and Reds created some good chances either side of the break but the hosts deserved their win against a Crawley side containing six triallists.

Gaby said: "First of all, congratulations to Horsham. They deserved to win and we wish them well for the season.

"For us pre-season is about getting minutes for the players and looking at options. If I am honest, the result of any friendly is not the most important thing in the world.

"We saw progress from Swansea against Brighton on Friday but the squad changed a lot on Saturday. We looked okay at times but the goals we conceded were disappointing."

It is just two weeks until Reds kick off the new campaign at Carlisle with one more friendly to go at home to Portsmouth next Saturday.

"Portsmouth will be more like the League - less players and fine-tuning," he added. "The boys have worked very hard for the last month now in pre-season so I am satisfied with how they have responded.

"As I said on day one of pre-season, the focus is to build towards Carlisle and starting the League season well. I would have the same feeling if we win every friendly. These games are about building match fitness and understanding."
