GABY: WE ARE READY FOR THE CHALLENGES AHEAD

30 July 2019

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi believes a 'calm' pre-season suggests the squad are ready for the challenges of the new League 2 season.

Reds have been based at their new training ground at Horsham FC for a month now, having kicked off pre-season with a week at the University of Surrey's sports complex at Guildford.

With new assistant Edu Rubio on board, and several other appointments made to the back room team, Gaby believes the club is in good shape ahead of Saturday's opener at Carlisle United.

He said: "We have had a very calm pre-season, which is a good thing. We have settled in at Horsham and the players and staff feel relaxed there, the facilities are all that we need to work hard and prepare well for our matches.

"We have had a few injuries but this is normal in any squad. But we are mostly fit and healthy and now, with Saturday coming soon, we are ready for our first challenge."

Ironically, Reds last away game was at Carlisle when we made the trip to Brunton Park for the final away game last season, losing 4-2.

"That day Carlisle had more to play for than us. They could still get in the play-offs and, in the first half hour, we struggled," Gaby added. "But then we showed some courage and in the second half we might have scored more goals.

"But don't ask me to compare that day to Saturday as it will be completely different. There will be different players and as it's the first game everyone will be anxious to do well. We respect Carlisle of course, but we feel we can start the season on the front foot and get a good result."

Look out for more build-up to Saturday's opener during this week. Tickets for the game can be bought in advance from the club until 4pm on Friday, or you can pay on the day at Brunton Park.
