SQUAD BACK TO WORK

25 June 2019

The squad are back in training this week ahead of the new season.

For this week they have been based at a residential training camp in Surrey having completed pre-season testing on Friday.

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi said: “It is good to be back and working with the boys again.

“My plan was to have six weeks between now and our first game on August 3 for the best preparation.

“The camp this week allows us to do intensive work with no distractions. And it helps the new players in the squad Ashley (Nadesan), Bez (Lubala) and Nathan (Ferguson) to get integrated into the group.”

Reds will play practice games within the squad before their first competitive friendly on July 13 against Swansea City at The People’s Pension Stadium.

Gaby added: “I prefer it this way than having lots of friendlies. We had many options to play amateur non-league teams but in my opinion there is more intensity when the players have a good game amongst themselves.

“We are gearing up to be ready for Carlisle on August 3 and we will have four games before then for the players to get the minutes they need in friendlies against strong opponents.”
