INJURY UPDATE: JOSH PAYNE FACES SURGERY

28 March 2019

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi has confirmed that midfielder Josh Payne is out for the rest of the season.

Josh needs surgery on an ankle problem which has been troubling him for several weeks and he will undergo an operation next week. The recovery period is 4-6 weeks.

Gaby said: "It is frustrating for us but this is a problem Josh has had for some time.

"Every squad has injuries but I feel they have broken our momentum this season. Obviously Jimmy Smith did his ACL and is out for the season after providing 20 goals in the last two seasons.

"Filipe (Morais) was at the top of his game then had eight weeks out with a hand injury and now Luke Gambin has had a problem with the nerves in his quad, though hopefully he won't be out for too much longer, his recovery is progressing well."

Reds head to Morecambe in Sky Bet League 2 on Saturday.
