GABY SEEKING HOME COMFORTS ON FINAL DAY

2 May 2019

Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi is confident his players have a 'special performance' in them to produce on the final afternoon of the season.

Reds take on Tranmere Rovers at The People's Pension Stadium on Saturday (3pm) looking for only their second home win since January 5.

Victory could lift Reds as high as 17th in the final League 2 standings and there is also the small matter of avenging the 5-1 defeat at Prenton Park back in October.

Gaby said: "We have this week worked with the same intensity as we did in September when I arrived because we all want to finish the season with the head up and with three points.

"We have made mistakes this season including myself. But we will learn from them and next season I am confident we will be stronger.

"But it will be a good feeling for everyone if we can end the season with three points and I hope a special performance from the squad."

Tranmere are already in the play-offs and have had an outstanding season after winning promotion from the National League. Striker James Norwood has notched 30 league and cup goals this season.

Gaby added: "We have to respect a very strong opponent in Tranmere with many good players.

"They will be like us, looking to finish off the season with a victory to take into the play-offs with confidence."

Jimmy Smith, who has been out since September with knee surgery, could return to the squad after returning to training last week. Josh Payne is definitely ruled out though.
