NEW FACES INCLUDED IN SQUAD FOR TONIGHT'S CUP TIE

A look-ahead to Leasing.com Trophy action against Norwich City under-21s

1 October 2019

New signings Gyliano van Velzen and Denzeil Boadu are both included in the squad for the first time for tonight's Leasing.com Trophy tie against Norwich City under-21s.

Both players have been working on their fitness since signing for Reds a month ago and Head Coach Gabriele Cioffi could give both their debuts in a game Reds need to win if they are to keep alive their chances of progression from the group stages.

Joe McNerney is also in the squad for the first time this season, the central defender having recovered from a back problem.

Reds were a shade unfortunate to lose our first group game at holders Portsmouth 1-0 last month but home wins over the Canaries' youngsters and Oxford United next month could be enough to seal a place in the knockout stages.

Ahead of the game, Gaby said: "Gyliano and Denzeil have been waiting very patiently for their chance. They had to catch up the rest of the group but their fitness levels are good and I am sure our supporters are looking forward to see what they bring to the squad - as am I. They are very skillful players who can really add to what we already have.

"It's an important game, no question. We cannot afford not to take any competition seriously as it's a chance to progress, make some money for the club and give players who haven't played many times recently the chance to show why they should be in the team at Forest Green on Saturday.

"We respect our opponent. Norwich have some good young players and they will provide us with a hard test but it's up to us to impose ourselves at home and hopefully win the game and give us a chance to progress."
