Last year’s historic Carabao Cup run will certainly be a fond memory for many fans. We started with a 3-2 win away at Walsall at Banks’s Stadium, with Ashley Nadesan scoring on his competitive debut for the club. Filipe Morais and Tom Dallison also netted in that fixture to see the Reds through to round 2.
Round 2 brought along Premier League opposition in the form of newly promoted Norwich City - with the Reds coming in as heavy underdogs. The Reds took the lead in dramatic fashion the 17th minute as Bez Lubala struck home following a short corner. Despite heavy pressure from the newly promoted side, the Reds held on to claim a historic victory our first against a Premier League side.
Round 3 saw us play Championship side Stoke City. The Potters took the lead in the first half courtesy of a Sam Vokes goal inside the opening 30 minutes. It took only ten minutes for the Reds to draw back level though, as Nathan Ferguson fired home shortly after. The Reds went on to win on penalties to reach the fourth round for the first time in our history.
The Reds failed to reach the quarter finals after defeat to Colchester United.
Premier League sides will enter the competition in Round 2 or Round 3 if they are competing in a European competition in the 2020/21 season.
