TONY CRAIG JOINS YEMS' REDS

Experienced defender joins for upcoming season

1 August 2020

Crawley Town Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of experienced defender Tony Craig, following his release from League One Bristol Rovers, on a 2 year deal.

In an impressive senior career, Craig has made 125 championship appearances for the likes of Crystal Palace, Millwall and Brentford, as well as scoring 14 times from the back in 359 League One appearances.

The defender has not played in League Two since the 2004/05 season, where he played 14 times with Wycombe Wanderers.

Most recently, Craig has spent the last two seasons in League One with Bristol Rovers, proving to be a leader figure in the dressing room and out on the field, making 80 league appearances for ‘The Gas’.

Technical Director Erdem Konyar said: “John has worked with Tony Craig and knows him very well. Simply put, having met Tony we have signed a leader on and off the pitch, not only does he bring experience but also the desire to win.”

Head Coach John Yems said: “Tony and I go back a long time from our days at Millwall, he brings an extreme amount of wealth and experience to the squad, he’s a good example to have around and he will fit in with the squad.”

Talking on this summer’s deals so far, Yems added: “I’m glad that we've done our business early. There may be one or two still to come, but let's hope in the current climate, we can now concentrate on keeping everybody healthy and fit, and look forward to the season with good optimism."
