Club clarify position on potential compensation for games missed due to COVID-19

24 July 2020

Crawley Town Football Club wishes to clarify our position on a number of points raised by fans in regards to 2020/21 season tickets.

At the end of the first week of early bird sales, we are close to achieving 50% of renewals, which is again, testament to the loyalty shown by our passionate fanbase and equally, have seen a great uptake in first time ticket holders for the new season. However, a small number of fans have been in contact with the club regarding the process of obtaining compensation for any games missed with a season ticket as part of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As a club, based on advice from the EFL, we chose to launch our 2020/21 season tickets owing to a potential start date of the end of August/ start of September. Having heard this advice, and out of respect to the fan base, we chose to launch with a short early-bird period. Launching any later, based on the timeline provided, would mean not being able to provide an early bird period for our season ticket holders.

In the interest of transparency and after discussions with Steve Leake of the CTSA, Crawley Town Football Club wishes to reassure fans that anyone who purchases a season ticket for the 2020/21 season ticket and is unable to attend a league game owing to social distancing restrictions will be eligible to a form of compensation. Compensation will be offered to fans in a tiered approach, provisionally including, but not limited to, the option to stream the game at home via iFollow (subject to approval from the EFL), money off internal club purchases, including the club shop, and the option to have a pro rata deduction off a season ticket for the 2021/22 season based on the amount of games missed.

There have also been a number of questions raised regarding potential capacity should social distancing measures have to be applied. At this moment in time, there has been no definitive guidance from the EFL. However, as a club, our safety team have already begun the process in seeing how we as a club can potentially best operate in the world of COVID-19, with the aim of as minimal disruption to ticket holders as possible.

Should fans have any further concerns, please contact the club by emailing tickets@crawleytownfc.com.
