The Reds announce the capture of prolific goalscorer Dom Telford.

24 June 2022

Crawley Town Football Club is delighted to announce that prolific goalscorer Dom Telford has joined the club on a three-year deal upon the expiration of his contract at Newport County.

Telford finished the 2021/22 season as the top goalscorer in League Two and was included in the PFA and Sky Bet League Two Team of the Year. Dom finished the season with 26 goals in all competitions, having made 40 appearances.

Dom began his career in Blackpool, where he progressed through the youth system at Bloomfield Road. The striker went on to make 15 appearances for the Seasiders before making the move to Stoke City in 2015.

Telford joined Bristol Rovers on loan for the 2017-18 season, where he linked up with both Tom Nichols and Tony Craig. Dom scored six goals for the Pirates before making a permanent move to Bury for the 2018/29 season.

Telford was enjoying a strong run of games with Bury before the club suffered an unfortunate collapse and were forced to liquidate at the end of the season. The 25-year-old then made a move to Devon to link up with Plymouth Argyle, where he made just shy of 50 appearances, scoring five goals.

Dom then made the switch to Newport County, where he embarked on an incredible season finishing as the league's top goalscorer. Telford’s prolific goalscoring form saw him win multiple Player of the Month Awards and earn a place in the Sky Bet and PFA League Two Team of the Year.

Speaking on Dom's signing, manager Kevin Betsy said: "We are all delighted to secure the signing of Dom. I am very thankful to the owners for their support in this acquisition. He stacks up on so many levels from a data perspective and his actions in and around the box are second to none. He has extremely high ability and an excellent goal record, so to secure this signing so early in pre-season is massive for us. In terms of character, he is selfless and sees the project that we are trying to achieve here at Crawley, and is looking forward to getting started. We have beaten off some extremely good competition to sign Dom, including teams from higher divisions, so we really are delighted to get this done. He adds to the already potent front-line of Nichols, Nadesan, Appiah and Oteh. We look forward to working with Dom over the course of the season."

Speaking on his move to the Reds, Telford said: “I am absolutely buzzing to be here and get the deal over the line. It has been a bit of a fast deal, to be honest, but I am buzzing to get in for the start of the season. I spoke to the manager, the assistant and the owners, and I am an ambitious player. I like the sound of what is going on at the club at the minute. Everyone is getting behind it, and it is clear where they want to take the club. I feel like this is a good place to call home.”

Dom will officially link up with the club on July 1st upon the expiration of his contract at Newport County.
