Stunning evening at the Broadfield Stadium sees the Reds gain a first leg play off advantage over MK Dons

7 May 2024

Scott Lindsey's Reds began their first ever play off campaign with victory in the first lef over MK Dons at the Broadfield Stadium.

Goals goals from Liam Kelly and Jay Williams put the Reds in front in the first half befoer Ronan Darcy’s deflected strike added a third midway through the second half.

The game had been scheduled to be played on 24 hours earlier but was rearrannged because of a waterlogged pitch at the Broadfield Stadium.

Reds started well and fed off the energy of the crowd and went ahead after just five minutes - this following a Will Wright clearance off the line after a long ball forward from MK allowed Gilbey to round Addai but couldnt beat Wright on the line.

Liam Kelly advanced forwards on the Reds left, played a neat one two with Campbell inside the Reds box before firing in low to the MK Keepers right to give Crawley the lead and send the crowd into raptures.

Reds continued to push forwards and were unlucky not to score on two occasions, first from Orsi's long range effort, and secondly from Laurence Maguires near post header which somehow manged to stay out.

Crawley doubled their lead on the 45th minute. Will Wright swung in a delicious free kick with Jay Williams there to prod home only his second goal of the season.

MK Dons came out pushing at the start of the second half with Addai denying a long-range shot from Joe Tomlinson.

Harrison then shot wide after Tomlinson put him through on goal, one on one with Addai.

After this near miss, Crawley grabbed a third.

Neat play on the edge of the MK box between L.Kelly, Wright and Darcy ended with the latter seeing his looping shot drop over the MK keeper to cap a fantastic night under the Broadfield Stadium lights for Scott Lindsey and his players.

Crawley have the advantage heading into the second leg, however know the job is far from over, heading to Stadium MK this Saturday with kick off at 19:45.
