"Consistency is key - I've enjoyed that and it's brought out my best"

Josh Lelan looks ahead to Magpies contest and reviews the season so far

Josh Lelan believes that his involvement in all of the side's league matches this term - the defender hasn't missed a minute of Sky Bet EFL Two action so far - has brought out the best in his game.

The Kenyan international has been a mainstay under Harry Kewell so far, and he insisted that the increased game time this season has been crucial to him putting in good performances.

"I feel like I've started the season well, and the team as a whole has bought into the new manager's ideas," he told the media on Friday morning.

"I've played a lot of games and feel very settled and I'm enjoying life in central defence.

"Me and Josh (Yorwerth) have formed an understanding and we're both close off the pitch too - so it's worked out very well."

The defender enjoyed promotion from the division with Northampton Town two years ago, and he firmly believes that the Reds have similiar qualitites and abilities to be successful in the tight division.

"I think consistency is the key to success in this division," he continued.

"We've got the same sort of qualities that the side did when I get promoted there, we just need to keep that winning mentality.

"I don't think there's much between teams at this level in terms of quality, it's just about being able to perform at a standrad each week."

The weekend's game against Notts County looks touhg on paper, with the Magpies sitting in second position in the table and unbeaten in their last four matches. But Josh emphasised that the team should have nothing to fear from the contest against Kevin Nolan's men.

"I think we can go into tomorrow full of confidence," he insisted.

"Some people may see a result as us springing a surprise - but it won't be a surprise to us!

"We've got some great fans that make a real effort to travel and so hoepfully we can send them home happy on Saturday."
