PREVIEW | EXETER CITY

A look ahead to tomorrow's trip to Devon as we face Exeter City

28 February 2020

The Reds travel to Devon this Saturday as they take on Exeter City having beaten Stevenage 2-0 last week. Goals from Ashley Nadesan and Bez Lubala meant Town keep up their impressive home record.

Our hosts for the weekend’s fixture currently sit third in League Two only three points off of league leaders Swindon Town.

The last time Town faced Exeter the Grecians came out on top as they defeated the Reds 1-0 at the Peoples Pension Stadium. Dean Moxey scored a 77th minute goal to sink the Reds in late November.

SCENE SETTER:

Town come into the fixture on the back of an impressive 2-0 win at home to Stevenage, the win meaning the Reds are now unbeaten in eight league games at home. The last team to beat Town in the league at The People's Pension Stadium are Tomorrow's opponents Exeter City. The Reds scored a goal either side of half time last Saturday as they sent The Boro back to Hertfordshire empty handed. A delightful strike on the full volley from Bez Lubala gave the Reds a 21st minute lead following a poorly cleared Josh Dacres-Cogley cross. Town were unable to extend their lead before half time and it took them the entirety of the second half to find the net again. Ricardo German came on and impressed the home crowd and he was unlucky not to get his first league goal for the club as he struck the woodwork twice in the second half as the Reds searched for their second goal. It eventually came in the 90th minute as Bez Lubala turned from goal scorer to provider as he fed a lovely through ball to Ashley Nadesan who took a touch before calmly curling the ball into the top corner to secure all three points for the Reds.

Exeter had been on a fine run of form but last week they fell to two successive defeats first in the semi-final of the Leasing.Com trophy away at Portsmouth narrowly losing out 3-2. Having been ahead 2-1 in the 89th minute they conceded two extremely late goals to see them crash out of the competition at its penultimate hurdle. Things went from bad to worse for Exeter as they travelled to Northampton last weekend. It was the worst possible start for the Grecians as they found themselves behind after only a minute. Vadaine Oliver put the Cobblers ahead following a free-kick. Sam Hoskins then converted a penalty in the 81st minute to secure all three points for the home side.

TEAM NEWS:

Ollie Palmer, Tom Dallison, and Lewis Young all remain injured and therefore won’t be available for selection.
